Sunday XI vs Churchleigh CC

After a bit of hesitance driving through the "Private Residents Only" entrance, opening into the impressive development, we came across a lovely pavillion and well-kept field at Churchleigh CC's home ground.

With Churchleigh one man down, Rob K offered to bowl, and it turns out charity gets you nowhere these days, as we seemed to gift Churchleigh a very healthy 233 off 37.1 overs. There were spells of really tight bowling, but with a pitch where pace was sacrificed for springy bounce, in the main we gave them too much time to settle and there were a few too many good partnerships formed. Although a few dropped catches and many more extras, once the cobwebs were dusted away, we saw some clear glimpses of the talent that the team possesses and a taste of what to look forward to as the season gets into full swing. Notably a great spell by Venkatesh and sublimely athletic grab in the slips by the veteran Robbie B.

Pads on, and we got up to 172 in our innings off 36.5 overs. Aside from a stoic 42 from Nishanth, and a couple of starts from Ram and Ven, there wasn't much else to write home about. Talking of writing home, we'll be hoping to right any wrongs at home on Sunday as we welcome Felbridge and Sunnyside CC to the mighty fortress.
