Ockley were the visitors to salfords and after winning the toss Ockley were sent into bat first.
Brett Atkinson and Tony Palmer opened the bowling and it was Palmer (1-5) who made the breakthrough trapping the ockley number 2 LBW. The early introduction of spin saw Dave Lancaster (1-46) take the next wicket helped by a superb catch by Niroshan Kahawatte. Belfridge and Sweet then built a good partnership taking the score to 75 before Graeme Steward removed Sweet for 28. Steward then took 2 more wickets in his spell of 14 overs finishing with 3-47. It was a welcome return to form from Steward who has suffered with injury for most of the season. Belfridge was still at the crease but was removed by the returning Atkinson (3-34) with a brut of a ball that he tried to avoid but after hitting him hit the stumps for a solid 58. A few late blows saw Ockley declare on 179-8 from 45 overs. Salfords batted after tea with a new opening pair of Ricky Kidd and Peter Speers. Both have been missing for most of the season so it was a nice boost for the team to see them back. Speers however only made 4 as he edged to 2nd slip who took a great low catch. Salman Shah joined Kidd and played some handsome drives but after reaching 18 misjudged a delivery which removed the off stump playing no shot. At 45-2 the game was nicely poised but the game swang very much salfords way as a partnership of 106 Between Kidd and Rob Besley took salfords within touching distance before Kidd fell for an excellent 63. Another 2 quick wickets fell but any wobbles were put to bed as Besley saw the home side past the line ending 80 Not Out. With 2 games to go salfords sit in a comfortable mid table posistion. |
