Salfords halt Capels run
Salfords played host to league leaders Capel who arrived on the back of 5 straight wins. Capels captain Pearce won the toss and elected to bat first. A long day in the field looked likely as the opening batsman were dropped no less than 5 times off the opening bowlers Atkinson 1-43 and Besley 1-31. Spinner Lancaster 4-81 bowled opener stephens for 33 and Besley removed pearce leaving capel 52-2. Capels middle order batted well and took the score on to 120 before two quick lancaster wickets slowed the scoring along with the accuracy of Palmer 0-38. Capel were looking to post 200 as early as possible and the lower order swung the bat with some effect although wickets were falling on a regular basis. Some smart catching by steve Harrington and Rob Atkinson gave Niro Kahawatte 2 wickets in his one over before the declaration came after 43 overs with the score 208-8.

Salfords reply started poorly as two wickets fell for 14 when Stone and Salman Shah were dismissed to catches behind of the pace bowling of Geldenhuys. But then Besley (79) and Musk (35) put on an excellent partnership of 121 to bring salfords in with a chance of winning the game. Musk then was unluckily run out but with 15 overs to go and wickets in hand salfords needed 73 to win. Unfortunatly salfords three big hitters only made 22 between them as the returning Geldenhuys 6-46 removed them all. Salfords then shut up shop and settled for the draw as Steve Harrington and Tony Palmer closed out the game. Salfords can take great heart from halting capels winning run and coming so close to a win.
