Revenge is sweet at nutfield
Salfords travelled to local rivals nutfield seeking revenge after losing the first encounter at home by 5 wkts. Nutfield won the toss and asked salfords to take first knock. It was tough going early on for the opening pair of Stone and Musk and it wasnt long before Musk was bowled for 2. This brought Sohail Shah to the crease and after being dropped by the keeper down the legside first ball proceded to build an excellent partership with stone. The score had reached a healthy 82-1 with stone continuing his good form on 39 when he recieved a lifting delivery that flew off the gloves to gully. Skipper Besley then joined Shah and the pair put on 93 more runs taking some excellent quick singles to deflate the home side before the skipper played across a straight one and was adjudged LBW for 19. Shah was now in full flow and reached his ton to the delight of the salfords team. He eventually fell for a splendid 109 and with a cameo 21 not out from Ian Catt salfords declared on a big score of 241-5. Salfords decided to continue with the old ball and open the attack with the pace of Atkinson(1-19) and spin king Dave Lancaster. This proved a good ploy as the nutfield openers found life very difficult. Atkinson soon removed Chatfield with a brute of a ball that broke the bail in bowling him out. A tremendous piece of fielding from Ian Catt saw him hit the stumps direct from deep mid on to remove the dangerous pollock run out for 15. Wickets continued to fall and it soon became the Lancaster show as he ripped through the home sides batting taking a salfords personal best of 7-47 which took his wicket haul to an impressive 40 in the league. Graham Steward 1-20 bowled beautifully in tandem with Lancaster and salfords bowled out the hosts for 103 and took a maximum 40 points from the game to reclaim the bragging rights. This win sees salfords comfortably placed in mid table on their return to the second division. |
