Salfords 229-4 dec South Park 193-5 The local derby between these two sides ended in a winning draw for home side salfords.
Salfords were put into bat after losing the toss and lost the early wicket of last weeks batting hero John Musk for just 2. Fellow opener Karl Humphrey and Graeme Steward (20) saw off the new ball before steward edged to second slip and Humphrey was trapped LBW for a patient 26 the score now 84-3. Skipper Rob Besley was now at the crease and after a run of low scores was looking in determined mood and passed his fifty. Tony Palmer (28) was giving good support but the partnership of 80 was broken when palmer was harshly given out LBW. Besley was now in full flow and raced from his 50 to his hundred in 9 overs hitting 19 fours in his 101 not out allowing salfords to declare on 229-4 after 42 overs. After tea salfords came out in determined mood knowing a win would seal the title and were confident of bowling the opposistion out. Paul Weller 1-46 and Graeme Steward 1-21 removed the openers with 34 on the board and were very unlucky not to add to their wickets total as both passed the outside edge on a regular basis. A change of bowling saw a wicket for Brett Atkinson 1-18 with Ian Catt taking a brilliant reaction catch at leg slip.Left arm spinner Steve Jones 2-56 entered the attack and removed the dangerous Freeman for 46 and also Howard-Smith leaving south park 138-5. With 12 overs to go salfords sniffed a chance of victory but the south parks number 6 and 7 blocked any chance of victory as they bravely saw off the salfords bowling.
