Salfords II (92 all out) lost to South Nutfield II (216-9)
Absences due to holidays and the start of the football season meant that Salfords IIs entered their home fixture against South Nutfield with only half the side that had played so well against Westcott the previous week. Call ups included 11 year old Danny Besley and ex-Bletchingley star Mick Grover for his first competitive game in three years. As summer had finally arrived, it was not a good day for captain Sanjay Patel to lose the toss and it was no surprise that South Nutfield elected to bat. Their openers capitalised on some loose bowling on a good pitch, and raced to a rapid start at over six an over. Veterans Allan Weller (4-61) and John Lambert managed to exert control at times and at the 30 over stage the scoring rate had been pegged back to under four per over. However, the game slipped away from Salfords in the final 15 overs as the lower order batsmen piled on the runs as South Nutfield declared on 216-9 after 45 overs. Salfords seemed to have suffered from their three hour stint in the field as a tight opening spell from South Nutfield left them in disarray. Although Besley and Bell batted sensibly to halt the fall of wickets for a while, Salfords eventually succumbed to 92 all out off 33.2 overs. South Nutfield had played much better cricket and deserved their crushing victory. |
