Salfords held to a draw
Salfords were back at home after 3 succesive away games against Claygate and after winning the toss elected to bat first.
Salfords 228-5 dec  Claygate 118-6
Openers Connolly and Kidd struggled and first against the swinging new ball and both were dropped early on. But they put that to the back of their minds and posted 69 for the first wicket before connolly edged one through to the keeper for 16. John Musk joined Kidd and the pair added another 62 before  Musk (25) was removed by an unplayable ball that crept under his bat and hit the base of middle stump just when he seemed set. Ricky Kidd sped past his fifty with some big hittting but just when his century was in sight he fell to a catch at long off for a sparkling 83 and after a brief flurry from Harrington(8) salfords found themselves nicely placed after 30 overs on 160 -4. Captain Besley (40 no) and Tony Palmer (30) added another 50 plus partnership and the salfords innings closed on 228-5.
After tea G Steward (0-17) and I Catt (1-22) bowled well but it was clear from the off that claygate had no intention of going for the win and were content on trying to earn a draw. A change of bowling saw Palmer (1-12) and Lancaster (1-26) both take a catch of their own bowling leaving claygate on 64-3. This brought to the crease the claygate captain who then preceded to dead bat his way through the last 25 overs scoring just 19 not out. It could have been different had two sharp catches been taken of the bowling off connolly 1-20 but after surviving those chances nothing was going to remove him. With 8 overs to go S Jones playing his first game this season was brought on with his slow left arm and despite taking 2-9 the game petered out to a winning draw for salfords with claygate ending on 118-6. This was the first time this season salfords have failed to win and claygate were clearly delighted to have stopped salfords 100% record.
