SALFORDS CONTINUE GOOD FORM
SALFORDS 182-8    OLD WOKING 145
Salfords pulled further clear at the top of the league and maintained their 100% record with this hard fought win at Old Woking
Old Woking won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting Salfords into bat on a damp overcast day. Both salfords openers fell cheaply although Ricky Kidd was rather unfortunate to be given LBW. Salfords found themselves 51-3 when Connolly edged to gully but Captain Rob Besley and Steve Harrington set about rebuilding the innings and did so effevtively and salfords passed the 120 mark with Besley back in the runs with 53 and the consistent Harrington 28.  At 40 overs salfords were in need of some big hitting to raise their score and it duly came with 53 runs being amassed in the last 5 overs. Ian Catt who has been in sparkling form all season quickly notched 29 not out and at the other end Dave Lancaster produced two massive blows to clear boundary to leave salfords on a respectable 182-8 on what was still a difficult track.
Salfords took to the field after tea confident their strong bowling attack would see off Old Woking in quick time but things did not go as planned. The usual opening attack of connolly 1-30 and Steward 0-29 struggled to find their line and length and the home side were going along very nicely at 56-1 of 12 overs. A Change was needed and it came in the shape of Tony Palmer 2-19 who took 2 wickets in his first over. Salfords joy was only short lived as the left handed pair of Edwards and Collin took Old Woking to 109-3 and with 20 overs left most punters would have backed a home win.
Salfords needed a breakthrough to have a chance to win the game and it duly came with the introduction of Paul Weller who dismissed both batsman one with the help of a superb diving catch at point by catt with the score now 125-5. When Weller 3-10 then clean bowled the woking captain  and Catt induced a run out woking were 132-7 and their was now only going to be one winner. Besley 3-15 brought himself on and mopped up the tail to win a game that had looked lost at one stage but this salfords side will never give up and great credit must go to all the team who are gelling nicely together.  Scorecards at www.salfords.play-cricket.com
