Salfords continued with the old ball as meduim pacer Ian Catt 0-16 and spinner Rob Isaac bowled very tightly but only one early wicket fell as Isaac bowled Andiyah for 12. An excellent second wicket partnership frustrated the salfords attack as Steward 0-9, Edmonds 0-29, Hunt 0-16, and Keaney 0-26 could not make a breakthrough on what was now a very docile track. With 20 overs to go and Capel on 155-1 a home victory was looking likely. But then Besley brought himself on and recalled Isaac back into the attack and things started to happen. Grove fell for 48 aided by a brilliant catch by Kidd at slip off Isaac and then Besley nipped out Spiers for 52. Two excellent catches by Luke Edmonds off spinner Isaac and a wicket for besley suddenly had Capel 180-6. With the field still pretty much in attacking Capel to their credit continued to go for the win. Besley 3-42 removed the big hitting Mitchell and then Isaac removed the tail to finish with an impressive 7-49 on what was his first appearance for the front side after his call up from the second team. Salfords were relieved to come away with a win against a very good capel side that had an excellent mix of expierance and several talented young players.
