Nutfield were asked to bat first and both openers were in trouble against the swing and movement of Steward 1-29 and the pace and bounce of Atkinson 1-39 and both found themselves back in the pavilion with only 1 run between them.
Nutfields number 3 Sloane looked to rebuild the innings but the change bowling of Jamie Hunt 3-55 and Ian Catt kept the scoring rate to just 2.5 runs an over. Hunt claimed 2 wickets and after 32 overs nutfield were behind the rate at 102-4. Sloane was now well set and was finding the gaps. He was supported by quick innings from Churchley 19 and Morris 29 before they were both victims of excellent catches by wicketkeeper Paul Ballam who took a brilliant diving one handed catch and on the boundary by youngster Danny Besley called up from the second team. Sloane completed his hundred and then fell next ball as Catt 3-33 mopped up the tail to leave Nutfield 212-9 from their maximum 48 overs. Salfords were confident of chasing down the target as the outfield was very quick and anything hit passed the field was 4 runs. Ricky Kidd 8 and Tim Tarrant 14 saw salfords of to a sound start with the score 31-2. An excellent partnership of 107 between Nathan Beaver and Rob Besley saw salfords on 137-2 and with 15 overs to go and both batsman finding the boundary very reguraly their was only one team going to win the game as all the Nutfield heads were down. But as so often happens in cricket after a good partnership both batsman fell quickly as Beaver fell for 49 and Besley for 53. At 149-4 the game was still salfords to win but in the face of some ordianary bowling found themselves 172-9. Ian Catt 17 not out took Salfords passed the winning draw target of 191 but the last pair could not hold out for the last 4 overs and with 13 balls to go a returning Lyons 3-29 claimed the final wicket to complete an amazing turnaround.
